The Royal Family commissioned French artist, Peter Carl Fabergé, to make a collection of Easter eggs, commonly known as Fabergé Eggs, or Imperial Eggs.
The tradition began with Alexander III, who commissioned the making of the first Imperial Egg to impress his wife, Marie Feodorovna (who was a Danish princess before becoming the Empress of Russia). These eggs would come to symbolize the wealth of the Imperial Family to today's historians and anyone interested in Russian history and culture.
